San Antonio Southtown

One of the nice things about living in San Antonio is that January weekends are usually perfect for outdoor activities.  Last weekend, some of our military friends decided to take advantage of a beautiful Sunday to do some exploration in San Antonio's Southtown at an event dubbed "Sunday Funday".  We started with brunch on the patio at The Monterey.  The bottomless mimosas more than made up for the few sprinkles we encountered mid-way through our meal.

Next, we headed out on a self-guided tour of the King William Historic District.  Chris and I had been through the neighborhood before (here), but never armed with so much information!

Our fabulous tour guide narrated our walk from house to house, offering tidbits of information along the way.

She was also in charge of making sure we didn't get lost... she had the map after all. 

We ventured off the tour when we came to the Blue Star Brewery.  No one in our group was willing to pass up the chance for a beer sampler from this well-known local brewery.

Our hydration needs met, we wandered farther off the tour and past some recommended local hang-outs, before settling on a table at The Friendly Spot for a late afternoon snack.

I guess all that walking made us hungry.  Do you see those sleeveless shirts?  Remember, it's January!
