In The Garden - Week 10

I finally kicked Chris off the office computer this afternoon, so it's been a blog posting kind of day.  It's been two weeks since we visited the garden.  Everything decided to take off at once.

Artichokes..

Zucchini...

Cucumbers...

We even got our very first tomato last week.  Hold your applause... it was a cherry tomato which Chris and I shared.

The celery I was trying to start inside finally decided it was ready to plant.  It's growing slowly but surely.

The most exciting addition to my garden was two varieties of melon seeds given to me by a friend and co-worker:  cucamelon and vine peach mango melon.  I've never seen either of these melons before, but I'll try anything once.

If you want to see what the garden looked like two weeks ago, read In The Garden - Week 8.

Ironman - Nine Days to Go

Only nine days left in my Ironman April challenge.  I've run the numbers, and my goal of finishing by May 1 is still a realistic possibility.  It's going to be a long week with lots of running... again.  Wish me luck!

Sam Boy

Sam, our 5 year-old golden retriever, is not fond of Texas.  It's really hot here, and he has a lot of fur.  I have a job here, so he has no one to open the door 17,000 times a day.  In addition to being really hot it's also very humid, and this is bad for our big floppy-eared friend.

Humid air + floppy ears = ear infection

This last one was so bad he shook a bunch of extra fluid into his left ear flap.  The vet was able to drain the fluid (more information that you probably wanted today), but she sent Sam home with the dreaded "cone of shame".

My poor baby!!  Just look at that sad face.  Fear not.  I am happy to report that after a week in the cone and a second week of us watching his every move, Sam is back to 100%.  No ear infection and no more messed up ear.

Now that's the face of a happy puppy!
